  • The sun transmits energy onto our Earth everyday in the form of electro-magnetic waves. These electro-magnetic waves consist of ultra-violet waves, visible light waves and infra-red waves.

    Ultra-violet waves or more commonly known as UV rays are harmful to our skin. They are the main cause of skin cancer when we are over-exposed to them. UV rays are not visible to our naked eyes. They occupy a small portion of the solar spectrum (300nm to 380nm) and accounts for about 3% of the total solar energy that hits our Earth. Despite this small amount of 3%, the potential damage that the UV rays can do to us is devastating. UV rays from the sun are also proven to be one of the main causes of skin cancer in human beings. The rapid depletion in the Earth’s ozone layer has deprived us of this natural protection, thereby exposing us to even more of this harmful radiation. Normal glass does not give any forms of UV protection. ICE Solar Films are manufactured using UV treated base polyester and further UV protection absorbents are added during the lamination process. This enables ICE Solar Films to block out more than 99% of the harmful UV rays. This protects your precious wooden flooring, furniture and leather upholstery from fading and cracking. Most importantly, it protects you whether you are driving, working in your office or relaxing at home.
  • Visible lights are what enable us to see during the daytime. They make up about 44% of the solar spectrum (380nm to 680nm). Natural lighting is something that we often take it for granted. Other than giving us the slight warmth feeling, it also allows us to see the roads while we are driving and it also allows us to see the outside view from our homes and offices. ICE Solar Films have got visible light transmission of up to 70%. The ultra-clarity of ICE Solar Films coupled with the high visible light transmission ensures that your vision will not be affected in any way. In essence, you can’t really tell if your glass is coated or not!

    Near Infra-red radiation from the sun makes up the rest of the solar spectrum (680nm to 2500nm). You cannot see near infra-red radiation but you can definitely feel it. Near infra-red radiation is what makes you feel hot. NIR radiation serves no other purposes other than to carry heat from the sun to our Earth. Many of today’s modern architectural designs mandate the usage of glass to maximize the penetration of natural lighting into our homes and offices. This design philosophy allows our homes and offices to be inundated with natural light, making it bright and cheerful. It also reduces our dependency on electrical lightings, thus making our homes and offices more energy efficient and thereby environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, the extensive usage of glass also makes the interior of our homes and offices warmer, building up heat much like a greenhouse.
  • The extensive usage of air-conditioning is thus needed to cool down the interiors, therefore negating any savings we might have from not using our light bulbs. The multi-layered sputtered coatings are able to block up to 97% of the sun’s infra-red heat and up to 58% of the sun’s total solar energy, while allowing up to 70% of the natural light to pass through.
